The saber-toothed tiger clan is looking for a new leader! But only the caveman who collects the most supplies, barters successfully, and pays homage to the old nature gods, will prove worthy. But you must never under any circumstances forget to do one thing, namely take care of Honga! Because whoever neglects the saber-tooth tiger will have their supplies eaten up by him.

1 game board, 1 depot board, 5 player trays, 46 action disks (28x gray, 18x red), 25 bonus cards, 32 barter cards,1 starting player fire marker, 1 mammoth tooth, 1 Honga play figure, 30 mammoths, 5 prehistoric humanscavemen, 5 scoring markers, 20 raw food material markers (5x fish, 5x berry, 5x mushroom, 5x drop of water), 1 set of instructions.
• Set up the game according to the game instructions.
• Place an action disk on one of the 4 round spaces. Be sure to try to please Honga, if you can't, then he moves to your tableau and will continue to eat your supplies.
• Carry out the selected actions with the action disk (collect food, attract mammoths, worship gods, etc.), and, if necessary, use a maximum of 2 bonus cards. Actions and bonus cards give you victory points.
• Draw a new action disk. You can draw red action disks if you have the mammoth tooth.
• The person who has the most victory points at the end wins the game.

Perfect family game

We've owned this game for a while and played many times with our kids (age 5, 9 and 11) bought again recently from Athena games for cousins for Christmas.
Box says 8 plus but the 5 year old has grasped it well and plays by herself now rather than in a team with an adult. We're fussy about our board games, they need to have replayability, have lots of interesting elements and be fun for adults and children - this ticks all the boxes. It has some elements of strategy and some elements of luck. A perfect pre-cursor to games like Catan, highly recommend.

Honga is for all levels of experience.

I discovered Honga in a search for a seemingly elusive worker placement game that would be ideal for an introductory session with non-gamers, or at best the very inexperienced. It has been a success, with a novel mechanism that reminds me of collecting taxes in the complex Tzolk'in The Mayan Calendar - but in a more approachable format that is entertaining despite the vexations of knowing which actions to choose. I am so glad Athena Games had this beautiful production in stock; it did not seem to be available at a decent price elsewhere. It also got an excellent reception from very experienced devotees.
