Inis Board Game 3rd Edition
Inis is a strategic area-control game inspired by Celtic history and myth, where players compete to become King of the island of Inis through influence, presence, and belief rather than brute force.
Victory can be achieved in one of three ways:
-
Leadership: Lead territories containing at least six opposing clans.
-
Land: Have your clans present in at least six different territories.
-
Religion: Control territories that collectively contain at least six sanctuaries.
Each round begins with an Assembly, where players draft a fresh hand of action cards that will shape the season ahead. These cards allow clans to move, grow, explore, build, and perform special actions, while unplayed cards are discarded at the end of the round. Players may also gain leader cards for territories where they hold influence, and powerful Epic Tales cards inspired by Irish myth, featuring legendary figures such as Cú Chulainn, the Dagda, and Lugh. Used at the right moment, these tales enable extraordinary feats and clever reversals.
As the game unfolds, players earn deeds that reduce the requirements for victory, encouraging long-term planning and tactical flexibility. Success in Inis comes from careful drafting, timing, bluffing, and a sharp understanding of the shifting balance of power around the table.
Although the game features clan miniatures on a map, Inis is not about constant conflict. Open warfare can often be counterproductive, especially when pursuing Leadership victories, and peaceful coexistence is common. When battles do occur, they are meaningful and driven by player choice rather than chance. The beautifully sculpted miniatures represent warriors alongside woodsmen, shepherds, and traders, adding rich thematic flavour without complicating gameplay.
Elegant, tense, and deeply strategic, Inis rewards thoughtful play and delivers an epic experience that grows richer with every game.
